Happy New Year!

Happy New Year!  Wishing you all a joyful, vibrant, and enriching new year as you revisit your thoughts, reflecting on them, viewing them from various angles, and delving into them more profoundly. New challenges will emerge, prompting you to contemplate, exchange and reconsider your ideas with others. Ponder their connections to your values, identities, and actions.

Engage in PMI (Plus, Minus, Interesting) analyses of your ideas, compare them with related concepts, assess their potential consequences and sequences, and take steps to manifest at least one of them. Embrace the spirit of the new year by daring to explore something fresh that has lingered in your thoughts and discover the possibilities that await.

A notable example of transforming an idea into tangible action is the resolute team behind the International Campaign to Abolish Nuclear Weapons (ICAN). Since 2007, they have demonstrated a commitment to their cause through collaborative thinking, sharing their insights with individuals from diverse backgrounds, leveraging varied experiences and knowledge. Their perseverance has been unwavering, driven by the motivation to draw attention to the catastrophic humanitarian ramifications of nuclear weapon use. Their groundbreaking efforts have culminated in the advocacy for a treaty-based prohibition of such weapons, reflecting their steadfast determination and commitment to global peace and security.

In 2017 the ICAN team was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize for its International Campaign to Abolish nuclear weapons. The 22nd of January three years ago the “Treaty on the Prohibition of nuclear weapons entered into force. Back then there were 50 states parties... now there are 70, with an extra 23 signatories!”

“We haven't abolished nuclear weapons yet, and it is devastating to see several nuclear-armed states waging horrific wars today, but the treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons (TPNW) is changing the course of history.” (http://www.icanw.org).

Those attending ICOT 2024 in Melbourne will have the privilege of hearing from Tilman Ruff, the co-founder and founding chair of ICAN and the only Australian to be awarded 2 noble prizes in person at the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre.
